Birgitta was born and raised in Sweden
and came to the United States in 1966. She is best known for her watercolors,
though recently has changed her main focus to oils because she enjoys the rich
texture of the paint. She has studied under numerous well known artists such as
Milford Zornes, Robert E. Woods, and Ovanes Berberian.
Drawing her visual
inspiration from nature, Kappe searches for patches of sunlight on the hillsides
and slivers of blue on the ocean. She draws her emotional inspiration from within.
When Im peaceful, my paintings are soothing. The feeling within me
excites me more than anything, the artist explains. She uses an array of
colors and distributes them freely to blend and unify each piece. My passion
for color is captured in my paintings. Early morning light and late afternoon
glow are my favorite times to paint.
Kappe has shown her work
in solo shows at the Main Street Library in Huntington Beach and other Orange
County Libraries. She has also shown her work at The La Quinta Arts Festival;
The Desert Plein Air, La Quinta, where her work was purchased by the Betty Ford
Center; The Cove Gallery, Li-Ying and Company Gallery, and the Art-A-Fair Festival
in Laguna Beach. She received the award of Best Watercolor Artist in 1998 and
Best Oil Painter in 2000 at the Art-A-Fair Festival.
