I love to paint and I love nature. It was probably destiny that these two important
facets of my life would eventually come together.
I was born and raised
in Long Beach, California. My interest in art was apparent and encouraged at an
early age. I received my art training at California State University at Long Beach,
Art Center, Laguna Beach School of Art , and various specialized classes and workshops.
Landscapes have always been a challenge for me and the American Impressionists
have greatly influenced my work. Expressing the beauty of nature is one of the
primary goals of impressionist painting. As an artist, I believe I must not simply
copy nature. I strive to interpret with paint and color my emotional reaction
to what I am seeing. In keeping with the impressionist style of painting, I apply
paint straight from the tube, letting the colors mix and blend through the viewers
eyes. Oils are my favorite media. I also enjoy using pastels together with colored
pencil, pen and ink, and watercolor to achieve expressive mixed media effects.
As a native Californian, I am increasingly concerned about the loss of our
land to urban development. I feel very fortunate to have been born and raised
in such a beautiful state. My artwork reflects my love of our landscape and our
environment. I hope to share it with others to enrich their lives as well.
