I have been an artist all my life. I come from a family of artists and musicians,
consequently painting is as natural to me as breathing and a vital part of my
life. Watercolors were the first media I was introduced to and will always remain
my favorite because of its wonderful spontaneous and magical quality. They enable
me to capture the strong, vibrant color of Southern California in a way no other
media can. I live in an area where I am surrounded by beautiful beaches, mountains,
and desert. It was only natural for me to become a plein air painter. In my work,
I hope to capture the beauty of my environment so that I can share it with others.
I emigrated
to California from England in 1983. I attended Laguna Beach School of Art, where
I was fortunate to meet and be taught by Roger Armstrong. Roger is a renown watercolorist
and he has had a strong influence on my work. In the last few years my artistic
path has taken some new directions. In addition to watercolor landscapes, I now
experiment with mixed media, acrylics and silk painting. The human figure has
also become interesting subject matter for me. The experience I have gained working
from nature has helped me translate my designs to wearable art as well. Its
very exciting to me to bring the strong vibrant colors of the California landscape
to pieces that can be worn as scarves, shawls, and sarongs. I hope to continue
to explore new ways of artistic expression in the future and share with others
the inspiration I receive from the beauty that surrounds me.
